Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning Are you someone who has already completed an undergraduate degree and is looking to pursue a teaching career? The Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning (MATL) may be for you! The MATL is a professional program leading to Quebec teacher certification at the secondary school level for those already holding an undergraduate degree in one of the following Quebec Ministry of Education-identified teachable subject areas: • English Language Arts • Mathematics • Science and Technology • Social Sciences • Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) This Master's program blends coursework with two practical school-based internships to prepare you to launch your new career, as an educator and mentor in high school settings. This program can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis at McGill’s downtown campus.Graduate Diplomas in Teaching and Learning Are you a current teacher looking for Quebec teacher certification? The McGill Graduate Diplomas in Teaching and Learning lead to a Probationary teaching permit (Permis probatoire d’enseigner); a type of teaching licence (Autorisation d’enseigner) from the Quebec Government. As an in-service teacher, you can take one of these course-based programs, largely for secondary school educators who have experience teaching in any of the following subject areas: • English Language Arts (grades 7-11) • Mathematics (grades 7-11) • Science and Technology (grades 7-11) • Social Sciences (grades 7-11) • Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) (grades K-11) Tailored for uncertified yet experienced educators working in Quebec, the Graduate Diplomas in Teaching and Learning programs are delivered part-time at McGill downtown campus over four consecutive semesters (i.e. one year), enabling in-service teachers to balance their daytime work with their studies.
