McGill University, including its Macdonald Campus, is known throughout Canada and around the world for conducting pioneering and innovative research. At Macdonald, more than one-quarter of our students are graduate students, making the campus a hub for discussion and debate regarding issues of the environment of natural and human-influenced ecosystems, biosciences and bioproducts for the benefit of society, food, food safety, nutrition, and health. Graduate programs are offered by all the academic units on the Macdonald Campus.

Climate change and rising human population have increased the need for sustainable agricultural practices. The MSc Applied (Non-Thesis) degree in Animal Science with concentration in Sustainable Agriculture offered by the Department of Animal Science is oriented to animal scientists already working in industry or government, to undergraduate students inspired by concepts in sustainable and integrated animal agriculture, to project leaders interested in animal resource management, and to veterinarians.

Students will be exposed to different approaches to improve the sustainability of agricultural systems through specialized coursework and a research project. The program, 12 to 16 months in duration, aims to provide graduate training in applied areas of animal production with a view toward integrating technology and management in sustainable animal production with allied areas of agricultural resource utilization.
